Eligibility
Serang (on contract basis): Pass in VII standard and a valid Serang / Lascar-cum-Serang Certificate issued by the Competent Authority under the Inland Vessels Act 2021, with a minimum of one year of experience as Serang of a Motor Boat.
Engine Driver (on contract basis): Pass in VII standard and a valid Engine Driver Certificate issued by the Competent Authority under the Inland Vessels Act 2021, with a minimum of one year of experience as Engine Driver of a Motor Boat.
Age Limit
The upper age limit is 45 years as on 22 July 2026 (candidates should be born on or after 23 July 1981). OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates get a 3-year relaxation, but the age limit after all relaxations cannot exceed 50 years. Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) are not eligible to apply, since the boat crew role involves physical stress in difficult conditions at sea.
Selection Process
Selection is purely through a Practical Test (100 marks) conducted at CSL, Kochi. The minimum qualifying mark is 50% of the total marks for unreserved posts and 45% for OBC candidates (for OBC-reserved vacancies only). Candidates are shortlisted for the practical test only after their uploaded certificates are scrutinised against the eligibility criteria. Rank lists are prepared based on marks scored in the practical test and remain valid for up to 18 months.
